Rituals
Each year is budding, each year is death.
Rituals mark time and coalesce bodies. The ritualized destruction of my likeness began in 2010 in Mexico City as a cathartic goodbye to a decade and a celebration of friends. We broke a piñata, crafted as a rough facsimile of me. The particular flavour of destruction left it's taste on my tongue and to this day it is reawakened every spring. What began as a birthday celebration, over time grew weighty with contemplation on life and death, on intention, persona and community. In 2020, Carnage was born- an alter ego that will hold this ritual, carry it forward and continuously generate the part of me that wants to destroy everything.
